Spring Blossom 2015: artist talk Gregor Schneider

Gregor Schneider (b.1969, Rheydt, Germany), lives in Berlin

Since the eighties, Gregor Schneider has devoted his attention to the relation between the builded environment and the individual psyche. For the 2001 Venice Biennale, Schneider transferred extensive sections of his private house in Rheydt to the German pavilion in Venice. Famous for his architectural interventions, the artist is not afraid of tackling controversial subjects such as death, torture, slavery and idolatry. Famous installations include Totes Haus Ur (Venice, 2001), Die Familie Schneider (Artangel, London, 2004), Weisse Folter (K21, Düsseldorf, 2007), END (Museum Abteiberg, Mönchengladbach, 2008) and Sterberaum (Kunstraum Innsbruck, 2011). The artist collaborates with Konrad Fischer Galerie (Düsseldorf/Berlin), Sadie Coles HQ (London), Galleria Massimo de Carlo (Milano) and Wako Works of Art (Tokyo).
